Today is the one year countdown until our wedding! As I type the words it seems surreal. Last week the save-the-dates were sent out, so there’s no turning back 😉
When we got engaged (December 23 of last year) I thought we had forever to plan for the wedding because it would be over a year and a half in advance. A fortune of time as far as wedding planning timelines go. I started off crazily pinning away on Pinterest with colour ideas, themes, dresses, decor and anything else wedding related I could imagine. Then, I sort of dwindled into ‘we have plenty of time’ land and I went a few weeks or months without thinking about wedding things.
The first step was obviously picking the date. However, this came almost effortlessly to me because I had known for quite some time which date I had wanted to get married. I just needed to find the right guy 😉
It was simply no question, as I had always imagined having the same wedding anniversary as my parents, September 5th. The date and time of year drew me to it easily. I can’t see myself as a summer bride, nor winter or spring. Something about a late-summer affair, on the brisk of autumn, while the days are markedly shorter yet still warm and sunny made me happy. Make no mistake, it is not a ‘fall’ wedding, as my friend (who is getting married this sept 5) keeps joking, there will be no leaves, pumpkins, oranges or brown for that matter. Still light, airy colours.
We’ve booked the venue, which we fell in love with on our first visit back in February. I think we have found a photographer we love, and are finalizing the ceremony location. There is still lots to do int he coming year, however. The one, very important, thing that I have yet to do is ‘say yes to the dress.’ I’m hoping to begin the search at the end of the month.
And now the official year of all things wedding begins. I’m so looking forward to the planning, memories and excitement that come with it!
What’s even more special is our friends are getting married today! so we get to celebrate with them and share our anniversaries – what better way to begin the countdown than at a wedding!
